That’s what we are telling the Rapid City Common Council.
You can add your voice by signing this petition, by attending Monday’s meeting and speaking out during general comments, or by writing, calling, or emailing your member of the council.
Council members John Roberts, Steve Laurenti, and Darla Drew Lerdahl believe the council should honor the agreement to take out the tennis courts and parking lot at West Memorial Park, restore the land to greenway, not pave it for parking for downtown workers.
The rest of the council is not persuaded that South Dakota law prohibits such a use, or that they should honor the word of the members of the school board and city council in 2009. Those elected officials decided to restore the corner of 8th and Omaha to the Memorial Greenway in return for our agreement to drop our challenge to the illegal encroachment of Central High School into designated park land.
