Memory walk finishes with refreshments and recollections.

Friends of Rapid City Parks are seeking second semester juniors who are interested in completing a community service project.

Selected student(s) would work with the FRCP Memory Walk committee (board members and executive director) to plan, develop, cooperate, publicize and carry out the Third Annual Memory Walk commemorating the 1972 Flood. The purpose of the annual event is to remember the flood and inform the community of the legacy of parks it left behind.
Participating student(s) would meet with the committee two times per month from February through May, and participate in the event on Saturday, June 7, 2014.
Students would develop ideas for activities along the eight miles of the Rapid Creek bike/pedestrian path that engage park users and community stakeholders. These might include, but are not limited to asking community groups to sponsor activities for their own members, such as:
  • cycling events
  • running events
  • disc golf
  • fishing.
Other ideas for activities will be developed by student(s) and could focus on history, art, environment, science, music, photography, among others. The goal is to have activities occurring for the entire morning along the full eight miles of the bike path and adjacent parks.
Participating students would be expected to assist Friends of Rapid City Parks with outreach, publicity, poster and t-shirt design and production, social media, conducting and documenting the event. The committee will work with students to develop ideas, plan the schedule, and access resources to conduct the activities.
Students interested in participating in this community service project can download the application attached below, or can contact Friends of Rapid City Parks at, friendsofrapidcityparks@gmail.com  by December 30. Information about Friends of Rapid City Parks is available on our website at friendsofrcparks.com. Friends is a non-profit, tax exempt community organization.
